The Deep Symbolic Systems Model

This paper introduces the Deep Symbolic Systems Model (DSSM), a cognitive-archaeological framework proposing symbolic stabilization — rather than economic surplus or administrative innovation — as the precondition for institutional emergence. DSSM defines stabilization through four jointly necessary criteria and maps its development through four stages, from embodied familiarity to institutionalised civilisation.
