Sri Lanka’s Social Media Ban Won’t Stop Predators. Verified Identity and Prosecution Will.

Sri Lankan children are being groomed, sexually extorted, and exploited online, and Parliament’s answer — a minimum age of 16 for social media — checks a birthdate, not a person. This paper shows why age verification alone fails using the country’s own evidence, and argues that closing the loop requires prosecuting adults under a strengthened legal code and replacing anonymous accounts with verified-identity accountability applied to everyone.
